Description
Woven with exceptional care in the hills of Otavalo, Ecuador, each alpaca throw blanket is brought to life by a brother, sister, and their spouses—four artisans whose shared expertise has been passed down through generations of traditional weavers.
The process begins with the hand-selection of alpaca yarns, chosen for their softness and natural luster. The artisans wrap the alpaca yarns around a large spinning wooden frame to map out each throw’s intricate design, ensuring perfect color placement and pattern balance. Once prepared, the weavers skillfully work the loom—using practiced strength and precision to achieve a refined, tightly woven textile that embodies warmth and luxury.
After weaving, the throw is brushed by hand with a native teasel plant, a centuries-old technique that gives the alpaca fibers their signature silky texture and luminous sheen. Each blanket is then hand-ironed with a traditional wooden block and elegantly finished with hand-sewn edges or hand-tied fringe, reflecting the artistry and care behind every piece.
Luxuriously soft, versatile, and timeless, these artisan-made alpaca throws add warmth, texture, and authentic craftsmanship to any home. The colors are shades of faded coral and camel. It has a 2" eyelash fringe on the long ends.
At Purple Nest Design, we are deeply committed to preserving the weaving arts, helping you to decorate your home with timeless textiles that tell a beautiful story.
